Among the X-Rays Types we can find many, but the most functional are the panoramic X-Rays or panoramic radiographs. They are another dental exam that uses two-dimensional x-rays, which thanks to the modern digital image processing technology, can take the image of the entire oral cavity such as the jaw and teeth, including its tissues.
It is worth mentioning that it is quite useful since the jaw has the shape of the letter “C” a little bit more closed and we would need different common x-rays to be able to observe it in its totality. But, the panoramic x-rays allow us to take its image from different angles and without having to make extra expenses or having to carry several x-rays to be able to give a diagnosis.
Although the procedure and machinery may look a little intimidating to patients’ eyes, the truth is that there is not much science to it and it is fairly easy to apply in most cases. The only safety precautions that should be taken when applying the X-rays is to place a blanket or apron made of lead, as this will prevent the radiation from penetrating directly into your body and can ensure the well-being of your skin and organs.
Extreme care must also be taken with women, as an unwarned pregnancy can be fatal when you enter the machinery. This is why you must make sure that you are not pregnant before proceeding with the treatment, or if you are, you must be sure to specify to your doctor that you are pregnant to avoid as much radiation to your baby as possible, as the results can be catastrophic.

The panoramic X-ray machine consists of two separate parts: the X-ray tube and a plate or X-ray detector on the opposite side of the tubes. All this must fit perfectly with the structure of the patient. In addition to this also has an armrest, chin and forehead. It should be noted that in some cases the doctor may ask the patient to wear a dental protector so that the mouth is slightly ajar and allows a clearer image of the jaw.
To put it to work, it is essential that the aforementioned tube runs around the patient’s head, from one jaw to the other, forming a sort of C. Despite what people think, this machine does not go inside the mouth, but emits the X-rays through this tube which, as we have already mentioned, goes around the skull.
Well, as we had already said, these rays have the ability to pass through the skin without the need to be inside it. Most of the images taken by this machine are kept in a digital format that makes it easier for doctors and patients to use, since there is no need to carry them in a folder in our hand, although there is also the possibility of taking the physical format.
